The H.W. Buckner Charitable Residuary Trust is principally a funder and promoter of radical environmentalist groups. It also earmarks some of its philanthropy for social services, education and youth projects in Rhode Island, and for the World Music Institute, which encourages cultural exchange between nations and ethnic groups.
Among the organizations supported by Buckner are: the Humane Society of the United States (not to be confused with the American Humane Association, which is a bona fide animal welfare group); the Midwest Academy; the National Wildlife Federation; the Natural Resources Defense Council; the Nature Conservancy; the Rainforest Action Network; the Trust for Public Land; Union of Concerned Scientists; and the Wilderness Society.
