Born in Mexico in 1954, José Villarreal is President of the New America Alliance (NAA), which describes itself as an “organization of American Latino business leaders committed to leading the process of Latino empowerment and wealth-building.”

From 1996 to 2001 Villareal was a Board member of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest Hispanic organization in the United States. In 2001 he became NCLR’s Board Chairman.

Villareal worked on the Bill ClintonAl Gore presidential campaigns of 1992 and 1996. After Clinton’s ’92 election victory, Villareal was appointed Associate Director in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. In 2000 he served as treasurer of Al Gore’s presidential campaign. In 2004 he was a fundraiser and campaign co-chair for John Kerry’s White House bid. And in March 2007 he joined the presidential campaign of New York Senator Hillary Clinton. The following month, another former NCLR President, Raul Yzaguirre, also joined the Clinton team.

Villareal was once Vice Chairman of the Board of the U.S. Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, and was a presidential appointee to the Fannie Mae Board of Directors during the Bill Clinton administration. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld, LLP.
