Yasser Bushnaq

Overview

* President of Solidarity USA
* Former President of the Islamic Association for Palestine

Yasser Bushnaq has been the President of Solidarity USA since October 2001, and is a former President of the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP).

At an IAP conference held in Kansas City, Missouri in 1989, then-President Bushnaq lauded his organization’s support of Hamas. Moreover, he cheered a Hamas-affiliated guest speaker as the latter described numerous terrorist acts that Hamas had carried out in Israel.

In January 2001 Bushnaq was part of an American delegation to a Beirut conference whose overriding theme was that Zionism has a “racist foundation,” a “colonialist nature,” and a history of “systematic brutality” against “the indigenous people of Palestine.” Fellow members of Bushnaq’s delegation included Ahmed Youssef (a political adviser to Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh); Imad-ad-Dean Ahmad (President of the Minaret of Freedom Institute, an Islamic think tank in the Washington, DC area); and Abdurahman Alamoudi, a major player in the financial support of international terrorism.

In late 2003 Bushnaq rushed to Alamoudi’s defense after the latter was arrested for having illegally failed to notify the U.S. State Department of his numerous trips to Libya, and for having illegally accepted money from the Libyan mission to the United Nations. “Our legal system is based on the presumption of innocence until proven guilty,” Bushnaq said, vowing “to monitor this case to ensure that the Dr. Alamoudi’s legal rights are protected.”
