Born
in Baltimore, Maryland, Diane Edgerton Miller holds an A.B. in Fine Arts from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia and a Master of Architecture degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She is the granddaughter of W. Alton Jones, who created the W. Alton Jones Foundation in 1944.

While practicing architecture, Miller served as a trustee and board member of the Jones Foundation from 1980 until 2000, at which time she became its president and CEO. After the Jones Foundation was subsequently dissolved and then reconstituted as three separate entities in 2001-02, Miller and her mother, the late Patricia Jones Edgerton, co-founded one of those entities—the Blue Moon Fund (BMF). Miller has been BMF's president and CEO ever since.

In addition to her work with BMF, Miller has sat on a variety of non-profit boards including those of the Architectural Review Board of Albemarle County, the Building Goodness Foundation, the Children's Discovery Museum, the Global Environmental Institute, Planned Parenthood of Virginia, the Tandem Friends School, and Urban Vision. Moreover, Miller presently serves on the board of the Greater New Orleans Foundation and is a member of Rachel's Network, an environmental group named after the late Rachel Carson.
