  • Founder of the Advocacy Project, an NGO with a strong political agenda and an anti-Israel ideological emphasis
  • Adjunct professor at Georgetown School of Foreign Service

In 1998 Iain Guest
founded the Advocacy Project (AP), a Washington, DC-based NGO with a strong political agenda and anti-Israel ideological emphasis. The group draws a moral equivalence between Palestinian terrorism and Israeli counter-terror measures, and accuses the Israeli government of “racism” and “apartheid” against Palestinians. During AP’s first year, Guestdirected the organization’s first campaign – to provide online coverage of the Rome conference on an International Criminal Court.

Between 1976 and 1987, Guest was the Geneva-based correspondent for the London Guardian and International Herald Tribune. He is the author of such books as: The UNCHR at 40: Refugee Protection at the Crossroad; Behind the Disappearances: Argentina’s Dirty War Against Human Rights and the United Nations; Honduras, a Crisis on the Border; and On Trial: The United Nations, War Crimes, and the Former Yugoslavia.

Guest has been the presenter of several BBC documentaries. In 1992 he served as a spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR) operation in Cambodia, and two years later as spokesman for the UN humanitarian operation in Haiti. In 1996-97, he was a senior fellow at the U.S. Institute of Peace. From 1997-2000, he conducted several evaluation missions to Rwanda and Bosnia for USAID and UNHCR. He is currently an adjunct professor of courses in human rights and international affairs at Georgetown's School of Foreign Service.
