Born in 1962 in Midland Texas, Hashim Nzinga was a longtime member of the New Black Panther Party (NBPP). He first became affiliated with the group in 1994, when he met one of its then-prominent leaders, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, serving initially as Muhammad’s personal assistant and later as his chief of staff. In October 2013, Nzinga replaced Malik Zulu Shabazz as NBPP’s national chairman.

Nzinga’s contempt for white people generally, and for Jews in particular, was profound. During a December 2005 appearance on Fox News, for instance, he voiced agreement with a North Carolina State University professor’s call for the extermination of the white race. According to Nzinga, American Jews exploited alliances with black leaders like Martin Luther King and the NAACP during the 1960s civil-rights era as a means of “infiltrat[ing]” American institutions and creating an “international Zionist machine” that now possesses a disproportionate level of power over U.S. media outlets and record labels. This influence, he said, had enabled Jews: (a) to “own what we look at and what our kids look at every day, which means they [Jews] control our mind by remote controls in our living room”; and (b) to “show us [blacks] before the world looking like damn fools” and “buffoons.” Nzinga favored boycotts against any Jewish-dominated media companies that portray black people in a negative light. He also accused Jews of using “their monies” to “infiltrat[e]” and “control” historically black colleges, for the purpose of teaching “white supremacy” to the students there. “Until we forget about them crackers’ money and start taking black colleges and start taking back over our colleges and give them crackers they (sic) checks back and draw money from our own pool,” he said, “we can never educate our kids.”

In February 2012, Nzinga was convicted for felony deposit account fraud. The following month, he was arrested on a weapons charge in DeKalb County, Georgia.

In March 2012, Nzinga announced on CNN television that NBPP was offering a $10,000 bounty for the “capture”—“dead or alive”—of George Zimmerman, a white/Hispanic man who in February 2012 had shot and killed black teenager Trayvon Martin in an altercation that made national headlines. Nzinga added, however, that in this particular case, “we letting (sic) Attorney General Eric Holder—who clearly I know [President] Obama and Eric Holder will be on our side—this case need (sic) to be a murder case, and it need (sic) to be a murder case quickly, or we gonna do what America been doin’ for many, many years—a citizen (sic) arrest.”

Describing George Zimmerman as one of the innumerable “racist bastard[s]” residing in the “hells of North America,” Nzinga in late March 2012 asserted that the killers of blacks in years gone by had typically not been brought to justice: “Nobody paid for Emmett [Till], man. Nobody really paid for [Martin Luther] King. Nobody paid for Medgar Evers. Nobody paid for Patrice Lumumba. Nobody paid for Malcom X. Nobody paid for the four girls bombed in the church, but this one [Zimmerman] gon’ pay, man.” Nzinga further made reference to the 1964 “Mississippi Burning” case involving the infamous KKK-related murder of three civil-rights workers and said: “They found twenty-something black bodies while they were looking for them two Jews out there in Mississippi who got killed trying to have the voter registration. Nobody paid for those bodies…. [N]obody ever has to pay for a black man’s death.”[1]

Citing the many online donations that George Zimmerman had received for his legal defense fund vis-a-vis the Trayvon Martin case, Nzinga suggested that Zinmmerman’s donors were motivated by racism: “Shoot this baby [Martin] point-blank range in the chest, no one arrest his [Zimmerman’s] monkey ass. Then he turns around and be played like an angel. White people raised over $300,000 and put it in his bank account overnight. They will pay you to kill our [black] babies.”[2]

On March 27, 2012, Nzinga was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 150 days in Atlanta’s DeKalb County Jail. Shortly after his release in July, he declared himself innocent and said that his incarceration had been “set up by this white devil.”

In an August 2014 online broadcast of NBPP’s Black Power Radio, Nzinga spoke out regarding a recent incident in which a white policeman in Ferguson, Missouri had shot and killed an 18-year-old black assailant named Michael Brown. Accusing white Americans of committing “genocide” against black males, Nzinga said: “The Black male is being exterminated…. The ones who are not being exterminated, they’re pushing them to be gay and fags so they won’t be productive on reproducing babies. This is about genocide.” He also denounced the “Jews’ media and the Jews’ TV” for having “made it look like we’re [blacks are] the villains of America.” Moreover, Nzinga blamed Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel—“a Jew [and] a master at propaganda”—for that city’s stratospheric levels of black-on-black violence.

By Nzinga’s telling, Jews were responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “Since George Bush and the Jews exploded American people with 9/11 and put fear in America,” he said, “…it’s not out of sync that them Jews would attack the Palestinians during Ramadan and start a war during the holy days.” This was a reference to “Operation Protective Edge,” Israel’s military response in July 2014 to a massive barrage of Hamas rockets that were being fired indiscriminately from Gaza into Israeli towns and cities.

Nzinga complained that Jews sought to portray themselves as a people whose historical suffering was without parallel: “If we mention our [black] Holocaust even, the Jews get mad, but you say something [dismissive] about their Holocaust, they call you anti-Semitic. And they always say they’ll never forget, but if we say anything about our history, they don’t want to hear it.” Nzinga was particularly galled by Jewish accusations of anti-Semitism, given his belief that Jews have no legitimate claim to the term “Semite.”

Complaining that “America is about protecting the rich and the powerful,” Nzinga in April 2015 said that the U.S. has “declared war on us,” as evidenced by the presence of “military police in the black neighborhood” harassing residents. Praising his fellow NBPP members for being “willing to die or kill to save our babies and to save a black nation that is dying before our eyes,” he added: “We pay taxes. They [the white power structure] have declared war on us and it’s nothing but state racism. So if we say we are at war, we should be applauded like George Washington. We should be applauded like Thomas Jefferson. We should be applauded like the Founding Fathers of the country.”
