• Seeks to expand the political influence of immigrants in the U.S.

• Initiated voter-registration and get-out-the-vote drives on behalf of Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats in the 2008 elections

The We Are America Alliance (WAAA) is a coalition that promotes “increased civic participation by immigrants” in the American political process. Formed in the immediate aftermath of the large-scale immigrant-rights demonstrations that took place in more than 120 U.S. cities between March and May of 2006, WAAA seeks to secure expanded rights and privileges -- and utimately amnesty and citizenship -- for illegal aliens residing in the United States. The Alliance consists of the following 13 organizations:

During the 2008 election season, WAAA's member groups targeted their efforts chiefly on 13 states, where they worked to register as many new “Latino, Asian, and immigrant voters” as possible. They subsequently enacted a comprehensive get-out-the-vote campaign whereby they made phone calls and knocked on doors "to encourage the Latino, Asian, and immigrant communities" to go to the polls on Election Day. WAAA's objective was to rally as much support as possible for Democrat candidates, most notably presdential hopeful Barack Obama.

After Obama's victory – and the considerable success of Congressional Democrats generally – WAAA Executive Director Holli Holliday wrote: “The We Are America Alliance and its partners are proud to announce that our efforts to get out the Asian, Latino, and immigrant vote were tremendously successful. This is a huge victory for the Alliance and our partners!”

Ms. Holliday is a graduate of Howard University and the University of Missouri-KC School of Law. Prior to joining WAAA, she served as Vice President of Political Programs at Progressive Majority, where she oversaw such initiatives as Candidate Recruitment and Development, Training and Outreach, and the Racial Justice Campaign. She also worked for the Michigan chapter of Project Vote.

WAAA's Senior Program Manager is Lindsay Daniels, who previously worked as a field strategist for the National Council of La Raza's Civic Engagement Policy Project. Daniels co-authored a report entitled, “The Latino Electorate: Profiles and Trends,” which analyzes the political potential of that demographic in the United States.
