Doug Rawlings is a founding member of Veterans For Peace (VFP), along with Jerry Genesio, Reverend Willard Bicket and Ken Perkins. VFP is an official Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) represented at the United Nations. Its founders created the group in July 1985 because they “were disturbed by the militancy of the United States and its violent intervention in the affairs of other nations.” Rawlings, who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, has made many appearances at anti-war demonstrations around the United States. During a “March for Truth” rally in Maine on March 20, 2004, he told the crowd, “Veterans for Peace joins you today as we stand witness to the human cost of this government’s immoral, unjust and misguided war in Iraq.”
